Drip system

I am using a 120V solenoid to hook it up to the same outlet of the water pump that pumps water out.

It's VERY easy to use and it's a good insurance against power loss. Basically I am setting the drip as an electrical process versus pure mechanical (water pressure)

On the other hand, you do realize that chloramine filter are very costly in the long run right ? I have done numerous search on chloramine filter and I found them to be:

1. Cost too much in the long run. Most cartridge can only filter out 100-200 gallons, on a 2 GPH emitter, 48 gallons per day, you'll ran out of filter in 2-4 days.

2. Most of the chloramine filter will release ammonia in the process.

So I opted to run a dosmatic pump instead. I use 1 cup of prime in 5 gallon of distilled water and it last me for 52 days :)

Basically I can sit and enjoy my tank for 52 days before having to do any work :)

I just got back from lowes i think im just going to use a float valve to stop the water incase of a power failure.

Basically the float valve will be on before the 1 gph emitter. Where the water exits the float valve im going to reattach the 1/4 tubing then put the 1 gph drip emitter on after the valve. Im going to put the bottom of the float valve above the on point for the vertically adjustable valve switch this way the float valve would be less likely to get clogged by other things. I may even put some pvc around it to be positive it wont get clogged.

The solenoid seems like it would be too much of hassle

Good idea!

well i have pretty much all i need but i came to realize that i will need to change the sumps i have to for wider ones since i cant fit everything comfortably in there since the sumps are tall but not wide enough. So im thinking of 36x18x18 should do the trick. And more filtration doesnt hurt either

So, if I'm following this set-up correctly, if I incorporate a float valve in my sump and a normally closed solenoid valve into my incoming water line, I will get dual protection from both drain pump failures and power outages, correct?

Here are the parts I'm thinking about from AutoTopoff.com:
1) Normally Closed Solenoid Valve
2) Normal Operation Float Switch

Thanks again!
