this is true but i would use a solenoid on the feed just to be safe. if something clogged it could be bad.

A solenoid valve is a waste of money IMO. A mechanical float switch on the incoming drain line would be more reliable. You'd just have to drip into the sump, but if for some crazy reason the water crept up it would just raise the float as it filled the sump.

I've used the drilled method for over 2 years and I've never had an issue (and I don't have any safeties)

Now when i drilled my 10 gallon i cracked the hell out of it but it was at the very top of it. my sump is an all glass 20 gallon tank home made sump. What is the trick to drilling it?

Speed?
Pressure?

I have the bit from glass holes .com

I'm nervous about drilling holes in glass tanks unless I'm 100% sure they're not tempered. If you find out it is, you can always use the float switch method (though it does take some space).

If it's not tempered you can make a guide out of wood to keep the bit aligned, clamp it down, drill slow, and keep the bit WET.

Yeah i kept it wet before i just think i pushed to hard and did not go steady.

Most likely, that was the cause. There's a sticky in the DIY section that might help.
