Is everyone here using a drip system for there ray tanks or is it mainly a preference. I have never had a drip system before. In the process of a new set-up maybe this is good. I am nto sure but seems as if it would need to be hooked up to a constance water source, so what about water bill cost, or electricity any noticable increase?

I've been dripping for over 3 years,

I am dripping about 170-200 gallons per day between all tanks.

My water bill is about 80-100 bucks, this also includes trash and I have sprinkler system with over 1/3 acres of grass area..

On the average I used about 6000 gallons per month at $3.75 per 750 gallon, it's no more than $30 ish extra of water per month.

I don't run heater on any of the tanks, my electricity with 2400 sq ft home keeping 73-75 degree constant is varies from $ 150 for spring and fall to $ 230 for summer.

Similar sized home (neighbor) without any fish tanks is about $ 50 less than mine...so figure about $ 50-75 extra a month for fish tanks.

I have a 575, 120, 75, 4- 40 breeder, 3- 20 gallon

it does get to about 105-110 degres in the summertime.

I think drip system would be the way to go since I know you are doing a monster tank. I gotta set one up on my 500g since it takes an hr to do a 50% waterchange

the drip system is the only way to do it.i love it been running one on my 1300 since i filled it in january.works great bwi plumbing sells the best units and the best prices.i have only changed the carbon blocks and the sediment filters once since than and dripp 240 a day.

Okay I see I need drip system 101

Bout the same here. $350 on budget....

I have to run quite a few heaters in the winter. :(

I run drips pretty heavy here. Prolly around 12K gallons/month. Around $75.

I used reeflo dart and barracuda on the big tank, the rest of the tanks in the fish room uses eheim or eheim canisters (2262 and 2260)

Our house is 2 years old, it's very energy efficient with big AC unit so it doesn't have to cycle as much as smaller unit..

Last summer we've gone over 105 degrees for 30-40 days and the highest bill was 230, we do turn the t-stat to 80 when we're not home..
Your winter is propably what kills your bill, our winter is pretty mild except for 6-7 days where we're below 20's

You need something to remove the chlorine and chloramine...if you think these are not present do not rule out as water boards can add to deal with bacterial blooms and this can result in ray deaths.

I use a. Hma, I heat the water as the uk is cold, I have a large garden with computerised irrigation and I use over 80'000 gallons per year, my water bill is cheap, I have a pool so I am on a water meter.

I love my drip but mine is only on for 1 hr per day and has many safety cut outs, the tank is plumbed to waste.

IMO people who run straight off copper piping and especially those who use hot water are exposing their rays to the danger of copper poisoning which could build up over time and kill a ray with unexplained symptoms.
