I agree, this is a very good thread. Lots of info and many success stories. The trickle was the single best investment to my fish keeping hobby. I doubt I would still be keeping fish if I was still using the old hose bucket method Ot even the python water everywhere method :)

If we get a few other people to post their designs in here with pics I'll stick the thread. If you have a separate thread detailing your system PM me a link, I will redo post #1 to make a compilation.

X2. Hopfully I can make some progress soon.. Ran into a monster snag though. My evaporator in the utility room drains to a little box that pumps water up and out. No floor drain... Now I have to figure out where to drain. Its nasty cold here and everything outside freezes. :/

In the above post there's a white 1.5 inch pipe under the manifold. That is the drain that all the sumps drain into. This drain runs behind all the tanks and out to the yard. I ran a system of garden hoses behind the bushes and they drain that super fertilized fish water to all the plants. I like to say I was going to water the plants anyway so the water for the fish/trickle system is free :) Of course, that's how I spin it for the wife unit. :grinno:

This is some shots of water going into the tank. And my drain in the sump. The drain is a 1 inch PVC elbow, I can adjust the hight of the water in the sump by simply cutting the PVC higher or lower. I don't glue this piece so it's easily adjustable.
FYI: I like adding the trickle/clean water directly to the tank and drain the dirty water from the sump so I'm sure just dirty water is leaving my system. Also when there's a power outage I keep a little flow going through my system. It's not a lot but at least the bio balls stay wet until the power comes back on.

Having a large drain (2" would of been better) is great for normal maintenance. I added a T fitting to the drain then put this line in with a removable cap. When I'm gravel vacuuming or draining the canisters I just put the python into the drain. It easily handles the extra capacity of water out to the yard.

Note: No more buckets :)
