DRIP SYSTEMS Success & Failures

Egon,

I saw your post. Where is this line you have pic? by the main water supply or? I am looking to tap into my line running across my basement celing and doing something similar to that. Same idea? Anyone else with pics of lots of tanks in the system?

I tapped off my laundry cold water line. I just put a T fitting in, one end of the line goes to the fish tanks and the other goes to the washing machine. Details are in my 450 build thread.

For those who have chloramines, what filter (from The Filter Guys, or wherever) are you using to filter out the chloramines? I'm thinking about buying one from The Filter Guys, but was wondering if the $110 they sell is the best I could find for the money or not.

Awesome Thread. I actually am debating on doing this or not. I am in the process of setting up a central filtration system. I would have about 1000 to 1500 gallons plumbed all together. I am debating on having the auto water drip into the sump or into each tank. Any thoughts?

How is this affecting everyone's water bill? Temperature of tanks?

My water bill went down a little ,and my electric bill went down about 40 bucks, temps are the same my heaters are definitely on longer.

So, anybody want to say where they got their chlorine/chloramine filters?

I suspect like most people here, I went with the Filter Guys. There's not much to it, activated carbon is activated carbon. Maybe you could assemble one cheaper buying the parts separately but why bother.

I had a close call this morning,i put an over flow in my sump to drain the excess water out side, some how a bio ball got stuck on it stopping the flow, water was at the very top of my sump if I didn't check it this morning I would of had a bad afternoon lol

filter guys HANDS DOWN !!!!

Mike Sema, I would recommend putting your bio media in laundry bags to avoid this mishap

I have had several major failures
1. I drip and refill through the same line. Inline dechlorinator failed to remove chlorine- claimed several of my favorite monsters.
2. Float valve in sump failed several times and overflowed several, had to replace carpeting in adjacent room.
3. Water leak detector from Habor Frieghts $10, works great, detected a slight leak in a sump bulk head during the the night. Must have!
