DRIP SYSTEMS Success & Failures

I love my drip system. I use a three stage filter from The Filter Guys. The filter kit lasts me about six months. I've never had a drip emitter clog on me using this kit.

CARBON BLOCK CHLORAMINE PACKAGE

FYI: I don't filter my incoming water. Straight from the cold water tap into my tanks :) Crazy huh?
 
I almost had a bad failure last night.
Got home from work, sat in my chair to relax and noticed something different about my tank.
First couple minutes couldn't figure it out, everything seemed fine, just different.
Then it hit me. My 600 gal. tank was about 1/4 inch from overflowing.
The waste line was restricted with some snails. I use a garden hose but it's sized down to fit in the sewer.
Jumped on the hose a couple times and clog was fixed.
I was thinking about putting a screen on the drain pipe but thought that would be more risky.
Anyone else have this happen?

Thats why I recommend a 1.5inch drain and a diy strainer like this with some height as back up. No matter what this thing would not get clogged as it has holes 360° and lots of holes continuing up as backup for any problems. Or just get a puffer to get every last snail in that tank :D well still having a strainer like mine would be best.

Wish I could do 11/2 in drain. Overflow already full and all I got is a 3/4.
The other problem is the drain is about 15 ft away, and drain in center of basement floor.
I think I'll try the strainer idea. Should have one lying around.
The other thing is, most of the snails are pretty small, maybe they're growing inside the hose.
Systems been up for a year and this is the first issue I've had.

I don't have that option. I have to filter my water for sediment and chlorine. I don't know if I have low enough chlorine levels to run without filtering.

Before and after (2 weeks) and the sediment filter is clogged and nasty. I am adding a 1 micron after the 5 micon in the pic soon.

Not crazy, pretty awesome. Question though.. if you had to, couldn't you just trickle your water over a carbon bag into an overflow or something rather than run one of these filters and risk a clog?

Put the motorized ball valve into the incoming water line, and hook up the sensor to the control unit and place it above the water line where it is dry (I put the sensor in my sump). If the drain gets clogged and water starts filling up, it will reach the sensor. Sensor reacts to water, shuts off valve and incoming water line is stopped.

$110 for peace of mind, especially when out of town, but how much would you pay to clean up an overflow?
