Hi All,

I am going to make a drip tray for my wet dry filter and was just wondering what size holes I should be drilling into the acrylic.

By the way Happy new year to all :headbang2

I just picked up a used wet/dry that was commercially made and the drip trays holes are 3/16" diameter and spaced 1 inch apart.

I've always used an 1/8" bit and haven't had issues. I'm sure 3/16" would be fine as well.

It depends on the size of the tray and the GPH passing thru it. If its a large tray and low gph then the water will not make it to the other end and you will have dry media. So go small on the drill size at first and if you get to much puddling then make them bigger. I allways start at 1/8''.

You could also layer a couple of pieces of cross stitch backing :)
That worked pretty well for my first DIY wet/dry. Just a pain in the ass if you have to put a prefilter over it. lol

Another suggestion- plastic pegboard:)

Thanks for all the help guys, I will start with 1/8 and see how we go from there.

undergravel filters make wonderful drip trays :)

Good answer. To take it one step farther, find the area of the pipe(s) supplying the sump and then have the sum area of the holes to equal the area of the pipe(s).
