Police charged a 16-year-old Amaranth boy with racing after he was clocked travelling at more than twice the speed limit Monday (Nov. 1) afternoon.
Officers operating a RIDE spotcheck on Amaranth-East Luther Town Line shortly before 5 p.m. spotted a 2008 Honda Civic coming toward them at 183 km/h in a posted 80 zone.
There were two teenage passengers in the car at the time, Const. Al Buck, Dufferin OPP media relations officer, said in a news release. Passengers need to take responsibility for their own safety. Horrific community impacts were imminent should a collision have occurred with this vehicle, at this speed, with these occupants.
The boys licence, as well as the vehicle he was driving his mothers car were immediately seized for seven days.
Anyone convicted of racing faces a minimum fine of $2,000, possibly as much as $10,000, as well as a potential for six months in jail.
