ill get pics when i go i have a house im working on do you want pics of that too i dont have the time or money to drive across town just to take a pic of a fish sorry Ladies

ArapaimaG and I discussed this months ago. He informed me of some research that was done on arrowannas in the amazon that found they were feeding predominantly on insects and not fish. The insects that were prey were at or above the water level. I came up with the idea of dropping the water level slightly and puting some water lettuce and/or water hyacinth in the tank and put some crickets or other insects onto the floating plants. I haven't done this myself, but can someone please try this and let us know if it works.

I have heard that moving it into a pond with a bare, black bottom works, since there is nothing to look at on the bottom its only choice is to look up, especially if there are decorations around the rim of the pond and plants on top.

Very very risky if you have your aro in a tank. The last thing you want is your aro to hit the lid or come flying out of your tank. You're also forgetting that most people here feed floating pellets. Of course, thats a bit different from jumping for food above you, but my point is, it's definitely at the top and not at the bottom.

That happened to me one time, my silver 22" jumped out even with the lid cover on. Busted that cover open and came flying out. Lucky I was there to see it. Cought it and threw it back in the tank. Now I have 2 pound weights on my covers.

why do you need to lower the water level for ?
sorry if i asked to many questions .

no one ever trust something that others say works

i know Asian aros don't get drop eye as much as silvers but i have had 20+ Asian aros and not one with drop eye you would think with that amount of aros and Asian aros being the next in line after silvers to get drop eye you would think that at least one would have got it

what has worked for me is no bare bottom tank i know people say that you don't get reflection from the tank glass which i find strange as if a meal worm is dropping down behind my aro he snaps at the front glass for it

never let your aro feed from the tank floor so don't just throw in handfuls of food feed one bit at a time

keep temp high 86

try to just feed insects meal worm crickets locusts

I'm not saying that any of the things listed will stop drop eye but they have stopped all the aros i have had from getting drop eye

but at the end of the day if you don't like drop eye don't buy a silver spend the extra bucks and get a black
