yes its a de surgery, basically they want to take out the fats that got deposited on the upper part of the eye...
they cut the fins too to have a more "fan-shaped" tail when they grow back. ( to have a bigger "better" look )

Hi everyone, I'm newbie to this forum.
Regarding to these videos, I haven't see the out come result. Not sure they correct the drop eye issues or not. If any one have any information please let me know. Thanks.

i have one more question though....it looks like they just leave the eye to heal... after the cut out the fat...should they stitch it up or some thing like that or will it just heal???

This kind of surgery has been going on for years. Its only fat behind the eye. Think of it as lypo for an aro. A stitch would only impede eye movement. Its only fat that was removed no need for anything further.

i doubt its fat, more like tissue.

and i think they cut the fins like that because the rays on the fin have split and those dont usually heal completely so they cut that section out including the damaged ray so a new complete section of fin can grow in.

I wouldn't say that it is purely cosmetic. If captive aros get de, then it is the least the human can do to fix it. It is like the killer whales with the curved dorsal fin. It isn't ok for the whale to go thru life with a deformity because he is captive. It is equally wrong (IMO) for an aro to go thru life with a handicap that was caused by humans, especially when they know how to fix it. If they are capable of fixing it, then I say go for it.

x2 plus we don't know how much pain the arow feels during this(not to start a whole new argument). Humans have done worse to aquarium fish other than fixing their eyes.
