From what I've seen about 95% of 20" or larger silver aros have DE. I have yet to see or hear of a black aro or leichardti with DE. There have been a couple cases of DE in jardini. Asians aros can get DE but I have no idea what percentage of them do.
forgot who mentioned it, but it seems theyy get DE from repeated head trauma. Another point to back it up would be that there are arowanas out there that have 1 eye fine and the other with DE.
their is no proof what causes it
if it was from jumping and banging the head that would mean 90% of silvers are head bangers and black aros never jump which is rubbish because black aros are more jumpy compared to silvers meaning they would get drop eye as much if not more than silvers
if you buy a silver aro face it their is a very high chance of it getting DE
if you don't like DE don't buy a silver get a black aro as they just don't seam to get DE I'm not saying they cant get it but its very rare
order of the aros prone to DE
silver = very high

Jar/Lei = have seen it in both but its rare

Blacks and silver are two different fish. Obviously what ever the defect is persent in silvers and not blacks. The head trauma is the trigger for the DE. I beleive this to be true as I have seen it happen with my aro.
Comparing a black to a silver is like comparing a unloaded gun to a loaded gun. Silver aros get DE from repaeted head trauma and loaded guns fire when the trigger is pulled. Black aros bang their head and nothing, if ya pull the trigger on that unloaded gun.... well, nothing

not true.its an excessive build up of fat behind the eye making it drop.I watched a film on arowanas in the wild and half the adults they showed had drop eye.
don't tell me they all jumped and hit there heads on trees:}
on another note i have a 26 inch silver with perfect eyes and he slams the lid with his face all day?

The only film Ive seen (on youtube, I'll see if I can find it.) the wild silvers had no DE. You probably can't remember where you seen or what that film was called with the wild DE silvers.
Any chance of posting pics of you aro with no DE?
