Drop-kicking cichlids....what to do now?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
That's what I said. It's MY fault. I put him in there with aggressive cichlids thinking he could hold his own. I now realize how aggressive these fish can be. I don't blame the lab, but it is upsetting. I feel better now knowing that he has a good chance of the fins coming back with proper care. I still believe it was mostly the lab though. Although the jack is bigger, the lab seems to run the tank for now. Regardless, its my fault not his for thinking I could keep these much different fish in the same tank.

It will be fine in a 10 gallon seeing as it is only a hospital tank. I'm amazed the yellow lab didn't get eaten yet to be honest. Just do lots of water changes while its in the 10 gallon. As previously said do 25%-50% water changes DAILY. Buy some Melafix, Pimafix
and Aquarium salt if you don't have any already. Add some salt and the meds then bump up your temp to 82*. It shouldn't take long for him to heal up. Just make sure that if you have to do half-dosing or quarter-dosing on the meds or salt that know that before adding them.

On a side note, it had only been 16 minutes since you made your first post and by your second post you were getting pissed off for no answers. I understand that you were freaking out but you gotta give these things a little time.

I got the impression you were pissed off from no answers in 16 minutes, my bad. I never said you did swear or any of that fun stuff, I was just stating my opinion. Doesn't really matter anymore though so no worries.

Yeah I have heard that melafix is good for growing back fins.

Really wish I could get a Bowfin there restricted here though, I just dug a new pond about 4'x6'x3', and if I could get a bowfin I would make it a little bit bigger. But anyway as was said just watch for infection and the fins should grow back, keep in mind it may take quite some time espacially if there nibbled to nothing.
