dropeye prevention???

No one really knows. I've read that indirect tank lighting helps along with painted backs and sides on the tanks...heavilly planted aquariums...differing substraits....you name it and it's been tryed.

IMHO, your only chance is pure luck or getting a wild caught silver. The genetics of the farmed silvers have a very high rate of DE.

You'll hear it all though ... fatty foods, ping pong balls, head banging, etc. I've had 3 silvers. Two got it, one didn't. Pretty good odds considering.

sorry but there is no bottom line.....

i made sure i put the lightning in another place, than directly at the aro's

im not 100% sure what i did would help.. any suggestions?

just do a search for it there are about ten freaking million threads on this subject...everyone has a theory, nobody has the answer :) good luck

Ive had 2 silvers. My first one didnt have drop eye the current one does. Luck of the draw.

even if u owned a wild caught silver, he wouldn't be wild anymore and could eventually get DE. who knows what it is. we don't and were supposed to be the experts lol

I wonder if it is caused by the fish banging its head? I have had mine crash into the top at night (spooked by other fish?) which is lexan, but there is the glass brace in the middle which is much harder. That can't be good for the fish and it seems to have a slight case of DE in one eye. It was real nervious when it was younger and was always going nuts at any movement it didn't like. It got a few nasty head and body wounds. Having it in with more fish has helped.

Perhaps prevention by having a greater space between water surface and cover or maybe a layer of bubble wrap between the two would help when they jump?
