I had posted in the introduce yourself thread that I was getting a 265 today and it went wrong. While we were loading it into my truck the tank slipped out of the guy who I bought it from slipped and the back corner has a slight chip that doesn’t look like it goes all the way to the tank. It does leak a bit however I think it can be fixed by re-siliconing the tank. The bottom rim is also broken off a bit but can be glued back on. I am going to leave it in my garage for a bit after I fix it to make sure it lasts. It is unfortunate it happened but I’m trying to make the best of it. The guy took 160 off the tank, added an additional fx5 filled w/ media, an additional piece of drift wood and some powdered water purifier. I felt this was adequate since we were all moving it and it did not look too bad. Hopefully this will work out but worst case I paid 1060 for a couple fx5’s de-chlorinator and some amazing pieces of drift wood. The tank still looks good and could hopefully be sold as a reptile tank to recover some of my loss.

So you paid 500$ for the tank, assuming you can repair it great deal! Is prlly rinse that media and clean the hoses, you don't wanna discharge of dry gunk!

imo you need to post some pictures to be sure

but if its a actual crack i would think eventualy it would split all the way.....

i have a tank sitting in my garage that has a nick in the corner from something (55 gallon) been a month with water in it but im still scared to bring it in the house so i may cycle it and leave it set up as a cold water tank in garage,
just cant justify spending countless hours cleaning up water off my living room floor,

did this when i was a kid my father had a 55 gallon and it cracked all the way acrossed for no apparent reason it sat there for 10 years and after it busted the new one sat in the same spot and floor was reinforced and everything.... so for me it would be iffy.....

may not break today or next month but even a brand new tank could break at any point in time then throw a chip in the mix and you may be spelling desaister... just my 2 cents

The tank that was up and running with fish so the BB is still good and on another tank to keep it alive for when this one works out. I watched a couple diy links to resealing a tank and it doesn't look that hard. I'll post updates on how it works out for me. The guy I bought from claims to buy and sell tanks as a side job and I have in writing that he will sell me another tank for 400 assuming I can’t get this one working. I’m thinking I could probably get around that for the tank from someone who has a big snake or lizard and doesn’t need it to hold water. Only time will tell. I got a big “I told you this wasn’t a good idea” from my wife on this one who wasn’t completely supportive to begin with.

I thought we could get it done with 4 guys since the tank was in his garage and I was able to back my truck right up to the tank. The noticeable damage is just a small chip smaller than a pea that is on the end of the 3/8in glass so unless it gets deeper in the pane it won’t have anywhere to go. My wife is asleep or I would ask her what she did with the camera and get a picture. I really just wanted to leave but I felt I was partially responsible for the slip and didn’t want to just leave the guy. I have been stalking craigslist for a while and not many tanks this size come up in my area and when they do someone usually wants what they would go for new. This one is right on par with the good deals you can find and the 2 fx5’s knocked it over the edge.

im here in cincy to and i know they dont come up much for good deals but, i think i would have told him i would give him half for it,
but i know if i were to sell someone one of my tanks and i slipped and chipped it up i would tell them, i only want half that was my fault (exspecally if he does this for a living he knows how carefull to be, but there is accedents) if it was there fualt i would expect them to take responsobility......

I had hoped he would have taken more than he did and It took some negotiation on both of our parts. At first he thought I should just have paid him the full amount without anything extra which was clearly unaceptable. At this point I told him we were just going to take it off the truck and leave so he demanded $200 since I was moving the tank when It broke. After quite a bit of negotiation I got an extra filter large piece of wood a tub of powdered declorinator and 140 off. While this was far from ideal, he didn't seem too keen on just letting me go and him soaking up the total loss. It put the both of us in a bad situation but I should have time to try to fix it tomorrow and Tuesday. I'll be trying GE silicone since a lot of people have recommended it on here.
