Dropped a 265

Kansas City is a buyers market for big tanks. I bought a predrilled 220 with cabinet and w/d filter for $250 off of CL. I see 200+ tanks every week for under $500. One guy has been trying to sell a 450 with cherry cabinet and canopy for $1500 for nearly a year. He won't take my lowball offers. Maybe it would be worth a drive to some other markets like Cleveland?

So I tried several times today to take a picture in different lighting. Apparently a chip in glass is not an easy picture to take, but this one is the best I could find and happens to have my index finger in it for size comparison. Looking back I wish I had of just dumped it on him however I don't feel that would have been right and feel almost reasonable compensation. Keep in mind, in my area there aren't the deals you see on the west coast or even in the Northeast, especially on a tank of this size. I could have gotten a much better deal on a 220 b/c they show up more but I had my heart set on a 265. I looked into getting some GE II today from home depot like many suggest however on the tube it says they do not recommend using it for aquariums. This scared me away to spend 3x as much per tube buying Aquaeon brand from the LFS.

I hope its a typo but do not not use GE II, use GE 1 it doesn't have mildew inhibitors so its fish safe.

+1 for GE1 NOT GE II, I did a lot of reading up on silicone before doing my diy bg

Do you guys think this may work better than GE 1. I was reading a post a while back that said it was supposed to adhere to old silcone better to old silicone. Also as someone pointed out I did copy and paste my picture form my email on yahoo I sent to myself from my phone as it apparently takes a better pic than my old camera from several years ago. How would I go about posting a pic that others can see?

This is why I won't help anybody that buys a used tank from me. When I sell a tank, the buyer must bring his own help, and pay me in full before lifting it off the stand. And he's warned in advance, "if you guys break it, no refunds" period. But I also bring my own guys with me when I've bought my tanks too.

Agreed!

I used it on a 55 when I resealed the entire tank, had it running almost a year, params fine, no deaths ever. But maybe at higher concentrations its bad. I even siliconed the air lines in as well.

Yeah, that'll work. I use that for small repairs.

The tank has been sitting in my garage for a while, but I was able to have some guys help me move it off the stand and onto the floor so I can reach into it over the weekend. I’m off work today and tomorrow so I have finally been able to get started on fixing it. I was going to use dap since I heard that it can be used on top of the old silicone but since realized that I am going to have to take all the old out and just re-seal the whole tank. It is not worth my whole second floor living room just b/c I am a little lazy. I have just cut out all the old silicone and taped it up. I have 3 tubes of clear ge1 and am currently waiting for the tank to dry so I can get started. I am going to wait till tomorrow morning so I know it is completely dry and so It has time to cure in the day when it is warmer vs. tonight when it is cold. Hopefully this works.
