Dropped My 450 gallon all glass

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
That sucks, why did it fall? Not enough people to lift it? We had to set my 750 on the ground cause 6 of us couldn't lift it high enough to get it on the stand.

Yup. I was moving the tank into another room and I had me and 3 other guys. I'm 6'1" and an avid weightlifter and my buddies are too. We lifted it just fine to put it up on the stand but just like a slow motion movie scene, it started to slide off my buddy's arm and BOOM!. Seemed like it took forever but it happened in a millisecond. Only fell like 2 feet. At least it was only 2 panes of glass.

So you still have 2x good 8' x 30" panes of glass.....

Sounds to me like you've got a 16'+ plywood tank incoming!

It's easy to say being a bystander, but perhaps you should view it as an opportunity. Fate has decided you should build a bigger tank!

I only have 1 8'x30" panel left. the back one and one side panel are what broke. I may use the remaining 8'x30" panel for the front and go deeper with the sides. The remaining good side is 3' deep. I may just go ahead and go 6' deep if I plywood. That will double the size to a 900 gallon tank!! I have a spare 150 gallon in the garage with a broken botom, so I could rob the 6'x30" front and back panels and use them for the new side panels and then plywood the back. A three veiwing sided 900 gallon!! That would be just awesome!! But we shall see. Got to make sure I can have room for a tank that size right now. I just may fix it as is and stay at 450 gallons. Then finish building the 750 gallon I have in the basement.

oh man.. thats.. speechless... I've broken a tank before.. my 150 gallon.. but 450.. man..

I think its safer if you go plywood.. at least that is somewhat lighter and you can make a bigger tank with it..

Glass at that size is just too much... my 180gallon alone needed 6 people just to move it...

Sorry for your lost... I do hope you'll find something soon..

That reminds me of when I broke my 175g bowfront by oceanic. After moving the tank to a suitable location my girlfriend at the time wanted me to move it. During the second move, I saw a crack in the glass. Nothing shattered but there was a stress fissure in the back by the overflow. I called my dealer and they gave me a new tank! I only had 3 months left on the warranty too. Good luck to you, it always works out for the better.

I have some 8' x 3' panels for you, along with a few more.

Dude, that sucks. I probably would've broke the other sides out out of pure anger. Time for a plywood tank!!!!!

That makes me sick to my stomach just reading it, cant imagine how bat sh*t crazy I would have gone if it happened to me.
