The first time in my life...I dropped a camera. My D1X of all pieces of equipment. It landed on a marble foyer and broke at the hotshoe. I picked up my bag and the camera filpped out. The room went silent and I suppose everyone was waiting for me to start wailing. I took a few test shots and fired off the flash. The camera worked and so did the flash.

Oh well, I'll send it in for repair.

No strap or anything on the camera?

This is the 3rd time this week that I heard someone drop their camera. The first was a 300D, which damaged the hotshoe. The second being a D70 w/70-200mm VR lens attached (ouch), and this being the third. Things like this reminds me to always keep at least a neckstrap on the camera.

phew, glad to see it still works. the hotshoe itself broke?

Yeah, the hotshoe came off the top of the camera with the flash still attached.

The camera was laying in the bag when I picked it up, it just rolled out of the bag.

When did that happened ?

I left on Saturday at 4pm and saw you walking with the camera.... What a shame.

This is a lesson to all of us. Get a hand grip and something....

It happened around 6:30 Saturday.

I just dropped off the camera to be sent to Nikon for repair. I'm getting the 'works' done to make sure nothing else is wrong with that bad boy. The camera won't be back for 4-6 weeks! Yikes! Good thing I have one at work. Then again I'll just use the 995 or the Olympus...oh well.
