Sadly, the one with the crack on it did not make it.
It started to foul up the incubater so I cracked open the egg.
And sure enough, it was a fully developed, dead, duckling.
I'll have pics up in a few minutes.
Sad....
At least I know that they should hatch in about in a week or so.
Is it true for ducks that each egg is laid a day apart?
I've always thought that but....
I recently had 15 ducklings hatch from out ducks at home.
The eggs were laid at a rate of two per day for a week but the fascinating thing is that they hatched within 12 hours of each other.
Ducklings are far tougher than they look and grow FAST. Give them some water deep enough and they will swim within literally hours of hatching, it's incredible!
In two weeks they will begin shedding their baby down and growing their adult feathers.
Once ours hatched they were fairly independent from their mother so raising them as orphans shouldn;t be a problem, they come pre-programmed from the factory
Hmm...okay.
Do you think you can tell me the age of these eggs If I show some candling pictures? I've never actually had duck eggs before but I've always done research.
