I was reading one of those fish species books and I saw one they are AWESOME! but I am not getting a 90gal for a year (Every summer new tank, every winter new tank, goes up by 30) and I was wondering, What IS the min tank size for just a single fish? Are they hard to keep? Things like that. Any questions for those who are planning one, or answers from those who have had experience/lots of research. I REALLY hate yahoo answers for screwing me over on this one.

I belive the Duck bill catfish is a Lima shovelnose and they get about 2ft so i would say minimum tank size of a 125.
but for a positive answer ask basslover!!

Can we figure out what species your talking about first?

We talking brachyplatystoma? pseudoplatystoma? ageneiosis?

They all get like 24-36".. you need something in the 240-360g range..

any small shovelnose.
recommended DBCs are appreciated.

smallest shovel nose your probably gunna find readily is a lima... but someone else on here will know better than me

if you want a lima and you have a 90 it would work for about a year but then you would need a 150 5x2x2 minimum. lima's should get in the 18" range so that would make them comfortable. they are also a schooling catfish so long as you have the room keeping 3-4 in a 180+ (6x2x2) would be a great tank.
