Is there a way to keep the filters from pushing the duckweed down into the water? I would really like to keep some in my native tank, but Ive had trouble in the past.

For planted tanks I would not recommend the use of HOB filters as any CO2 that is in the tank will get pushed out by the turbulence created by HOBs. With canisters just set the return lower than the water level so that there isn't too much movement at the surface.
