Duckweed to speed up cycling?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
i suppose it how you look at, cycling the name refers to the nitrogen cycle. and plants are indeed part of the nitrogen cycle, not like bacteria tho. but plants themselves only act as nutrient sinks eating ammonia and nitrates. they dont convert stuff from ammonia to nitrate tho.

both make you water less toxic to fish. so i would say they cycle it faster.

The only thing ubiquitous is the lack of simplicity around here...The OP was asking a question about adding duckweed to speed up the cycling process.

What was suggested by myself was a product that I KNOW to work, and work rather well.

It's very simple...
Shake the friggen bottle well,
add 1 cap fulls per 10 gallons of water on the first day,
then for the next 6 days 1 cap full of SHAKEN product per 20 gallons of water, done deal, your parameters will be fine, and off you go to keep fish healthy.

Why in the hell would you make it any harder than that?...

All this superfluous scientific horsesiht for nothing...it's really simple.
I'm not looking to argue, or discuss threory, I'm just giving the OP a solution, period...

Plants will help cycle your tank faster, but I wouldn't waste your time with duckweed. If you don't plan on keeping it in the tank,it will just make a mess.I have heard good things about Stability, and have used Tetra Safe Start when the cycle in one of my tanks crashed.TSS didn't cycle it overnight, but it did speed things up,and the tank was ammonia and nitrite free in about 4 days.
