Duck weed is CRAZY!! Very nutrious for your fishies too! And since it grows so fast its like a sponge for nitrites and nitrates...crazy kewl stuff! I put about half a teaspoon in my 20gal...and with in 2 weeks i had a half an inch layer covering the ENTIRE surface of my tank....OY! It grows sooo fast! Barely able to keep up! Can be a pain to get rid of too! Once its in the tank....it stays!!

Duckweed is easy to grow.. just some lighting and it will multiply a lot.It would definitely remove nitrates but still not as efficient as water changers of course. I doubt it would irritate the aro as it would just simulate a natural environment like in the wild. i personaly think it is a good addition to any tank except planted and provided it does not clogg filtration.

:iagree: :goldfish:

thanks for all the input guys!

i will try to get some by next week and let you know how it goes! :)

I think duckweed is amusing when it is tumbled around by the filter output or swirled by fishes. it is a great competitor for nutrients to help starve out green algae, some fish eat it, a lot of fish lurk under it.It multiplies quickly and shades your tank.

On the down side it multiplies QUICKLY and unless you net some out every week you can end up with so much that you will have to push pellets tru with your finger. it can also starve your other plants, and shade your tank to thouroughly. If it is disturbed enough to swirl around it will eventually clog your filter intakes.

It is a trade off, are you willing to spend a few minutes a couple times a week taking care of it? If so try it. Remember that once in there you will have to spend a few minutes daily for a month to get rid of it. If you have a crowded tank or other causes of nitrogen product build up this is a good control plant because every week you remove some plant mass and all the nitrogen products that are tied up in them. I like it in tetra tanks or with fish like hujetas.

you're going to run into a problem with your filters i should know i tried it it looked good for awhile but it got out of control

i dono...but i kill it withen 3 days
