Hi,

i have the Eheim 2260 running now, it is just sat in the middle of the floor until i can workout how to get it into the stand.

I have noticed that it seems to make a lot of noise compared to my 2080, which is also outside my stand.

is there any way to dull the sound?

I have placed the canister on top of a towel, which seems to help a bit but it is still a noticeable humming sound coming from the canister.

Are there any anti vibration feet i can get?

thanks

I have made box of 2" thick styrofoam and inside 1" foam.. Helps pretty much..but you can still hear it at night

would you mind posting a pic?

I have my tank in the lounge and im in my office, my house has wooden floows and i can hear the vidration of the canister!!! it is driving me mad!!! i wonder if i will sleep tonight?

putting it on a piece of tempur-pedic type foam will prevent vibrations from reaching the floor, but it won't do anything for the actual sound made by the filter. putting it in a box lined with waffle foam sitting on the tempur-pedic foam will be the best sound deadening vs price solution.
make the hose holes bigger than the hoses, but keep the foam holes just big enough so it still touch the hoses.
or maybe you just need a new impeller.

Sorry its not the best pic..and recently i made space in stand so box is in it..before that i had it next to stand..i still heard humming at nights but during the day with all traffic and sounds i didnt notice anything.. It is 2" styrofoam and 1/2" foam (not 1"..mistake-these measure from cm to inch drives me nuts :) )..if you plan to make smt like that rather use 2" foam..better more then less :)

The canister is brand new, is been running for about 6 hours, I can't see the impeller being replaced.

I guess it is just a beast canister and I'll have to get used to the noise!

I try making a stryo box, but I think the curtain is so loud because the canister ifs sling on the base plate of the stand and it is getting amplified!

New canisters are always a bit loud..give it time (about a week) and it will become more quiet :)

If you have the removable cover on the top of the filter, remove it. I don't think you do because I think you rotated the pump already.

Make sure the hoses and electrical cord don't contact the stand as that will increase the noise amplification.

A piece of soft foam, as suggested, will help, especially on a wooden surface.

Try slightly loosening the screws that mount the pump to the mounting plate and see if the noise abates. If it does, just snug them up until it is quieter.

The only real noise you should hear from the filter might be the hum of the pump. If the recommendations above haven't work, be sure that all the air is evacuated from the filter because that may be some of the noise you are hearing.

I have put some thick Styrofoam under the canister, it has helped a bit, although for a 30kg canister surely soft foam would just get crushed? Would rubber mating be better?

I was thinking about loosening the screws but didn't know how it would affect the function of the canister.

The main noise is the vibration of the pump being amplified by the stand!

Try using something similar to a Yoga mat or those interlocking rubber mats used in children's playrooms. Styrofoam is a bit stiff so you don't really get the vibration absorption you would with a softer rubber.

I didn't mean for you to keep the pump mounting screws loose. Sometimes you just need to loosen them a bit and then alternate snugging them down to reduce the pump vibration. Honestly, there should not be a noticeable vibration from the pump, just a slight humming sound of the motor.
