great looking fish, i dunno what i would have done in that situation, taken it as store error i guess. My LFS is alot better than it has been lately, they were properly telling me to cycle what fish fits in what. its the store owner that i have to watch out for, his automatic response is 6"
 
When you have your own biz. like I do and you have a wife, kids, house, overhead, truck, gas, insurance, licenses, shop, people that depend on you, you reputation, pets of your own, bad economy, and so on.... the last thing you need is for you or your employees to make a goof that pulls cash out of your back pocket.
Everyone in the USA is a capitalist or they work for one. That is the way it is setup for all. Buy cheep and sell for a profit so that you can pay for the things that you and yours need.
When that chain is broken or bent, we all pay in the end.
 
I don't see why you all think what he did is so bad. If an employee makes a stupid mistake, that's on them, it's not the customer's job to keep the store in order. Many stores even have policies where if an item is mislabled for a lower price than what the actual price is, they have to give it to you at the labled price. There is nothing wrong with taking advantage of their mistakes, it is their job to pay attention and make sure they are not losing money, not yours.

When does it kick in that we are responsible adults that should try to treat people the way that we would want to be treated? No matter what the cost or gain?

If I was the employee, I would take responsibility for my own stupid mistake and I wouldn't blame the customer since it is obviously not their fault.

If it is the store's policy to honor marked prices, then so be it. That's fair. But knowingly cheating a business that aimed to help you is not fair at all. It's more about common decency and morality than it is about store policies and rules. There IS something wrong about taking advantage of a person's mistakes. Whether it be in this hobby or elsewhere. Sometimes you just have to put yourself in the other person's shoes, remember how it feels to be harmed by your own mistakes. You may be able to recall hundreds of times when someone cashed in on your mistakes but try to imagine all the thousands of times people chose the honorable path and didn't take advantage of you without you even knowing about it. This is more about honor than a cheap fish. Gloating about ripping someone off will usually get you flamed everytime.

I disagree, if you make a mistake, you take responsibility for it and you learn from it, you don't look down upon someone else for not holding your hand and correcting you, THAT IS NOT THEIR RESPONSIBILITY. No matter how many times you all bring up "honor" and "common decency" that doesn't change the fact that you are not responsible for other peoples mistakes just because you don't point them out to the person. You can't expect people to do that. I agree that the gloating part is a little over the line, but I see nothing wrong with letting people make their mistakes, and I guess I'll just have to leave it at that.
