Dumb water changers...

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I've had my aqueon for a year the only problem I had was the adaptor cracking cause my son threw it on the floor. Still works great. In my area pythons are discontinued every Lfs around here doesn't even sell parts.

I know I could probably find out why by searching, but why has everyone seemingly dropped Python?

I'm tired of the adapters. They lose their "grip". I've had to to replace one already and now water is leaking out the new one already. I'm gonna have to try f1vets idea. If he would be so kind as to let me know what adapter he's talking about.

I've had my aqueon adapter for over a year with no issues I love the thing the tubing works perfect! Sorry that your experience has not been the same.

garden hose ,,, and buckets .. I have 0 experience with retail water changers,, I do have a small gravel vac ,though:popcorn:

I don't use either. I stick a tube in the tank and siphon. No gravel vac - I don't like them. I put a piece of panty hose (like fish net) or other netting over the tube if I have small stuff that I don't want to suck up otherwise I leave it uncovered and that way I can get all the little food bits or whatever else is left on the bottom. I bought a shower adapter at home depot with a nipple to fit the tube size on and hook that up to the shower and fill up the tank. Its quick and easy and it lasts a long time b/c I picked out the parts for it - no cheap stuff, all stuff that can hold up to the use I need it for.

At 10 running tanks now and a total of about 500gallons the python doesnt cut it anymore. Going back to the sink 20+ times is no good. The python connections cannot hold up vs the water pressure where i live so i cannot use the off valve on the python without it popping a connection. Ill be making one from scratch that can very soon.

After my Python parts gave out, I went to the hardware store and rigged the contraption below, for only a few bucks. It fills 3 sumps, with about 150 gallons of new water in about 10 minutes.

I test temp of new water in the pipe hanging over the bucket, and rinse sand at the same time.
To send old water to my garden, I just open the red valve, and instead of going to the sump, water is redirected outside, takes about the same 10 minutes to get rid of 100 gallons of old water.
