Dumbest/Smartest fish

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Every one has been putting smart fish out there. What about the dummies. My Oranda, Poogie, knows if she swims to close to the water change hose she's gonna get her fat head stuck but she still tries to during every water change. Not the smartest.

I had some kribs in a community tank that used to breed regularly. Out of all the spawns only one fish survived to adulthood, the rest got munched while he lived in the gaps in a pile of lava rock, always thought he was smart. Probably the only survivor from 500 babies over 12 months of spawning.

I realize this is anthropomorphic question, and to be taken lightly as any human perception but....
Cattle can get pretty chummy with us, and then one day we turn around eat them, so ......
I consider any fish that trusts a human, be it an oscar or ....that eats out of our hand, or one that is simply not afraid of us, to be (maybe not so dumb) but at the very least, on the dangerously gullible side. Our human history tends to predict our "not" so benign, or kindly nature to anything we deem is less deserving or not up to our perceived standards of intelligence.

Those fish that hide every time we enter the room, "those" are the smart ones.

I believe my smartest fish, was a Nandopsis haitiensus that splashed water on me if I got to close.

I'm curious what fish are the smartest on a Human scale. What is the most intelligent fish and where would they fall compared to humans? If goldfish can be trained to play games, I wonder if they could be trained to take intelligence tests, so it could then be determined where a fish falls. like how intelligent they are compared to a human of average intelligence in a certain age bracket.
