Durso Stand Pipe, Schedule 26 fittings???

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
you should be looking for SDR 26 ASTMD class 2241 fittings its still sch 40
there is also class 3034 sdr 26 which is thick wall
you dont state what size pipe but if its just a straight joint you can get a peice of sdr 26 solvent weld and cut to length.try WESTLAKE or CRESTLINE

I got my SCH 26 from Lowes. HD doesn't carry them. Just tell the person at that you need thin wall and they'll know what you're talking about.

I would assume you want 1.5" fittings for the Durso type stand pipe. It has been my experiance that the wall thickness of the fittings does not make a noticable difference. I am using regular old sch 40 on my tanks that have the durso type stand pipes and they work just as well as the one with the thinner wall fittings.

I have also found that this type set up works better if you use a "bell" type reducer fitting for the transition from 1.5" down to 1" as is typically done. The bell type have a smooth taper from 1.5" to 1" for a smoother & quieter flow of water. THis type of fitting is not found at harware stores normally. If your local aquarium shop doesn't carry these you can order them from champion lighting. (www.championlighting.com)

Thanks for the info gents, however, I went to Lowes the other day and I didn't see schedule 26 anywhere. I have a 1" bulkhead and Durso says to go with a 1.25 pipe, so I was planning on doing that....

no wall thickness doesnt make a difference for fittings as 1.5" sch 40 and 1.5"sdr 26 both are the same O.D. of 1.900
