Hi

I've wanted to keep a gar for sometime but never had the space. i am getting a 50 USG tank soon and was wondering if there are any dwarf that max out at about 8inches that would live in a 50USG tank for life?

thanks
Matt

As stated, no true gar is that small, A couple of the less common acestrorynchus pike characins will work.
Since you are in the UK and have a good chance of finding them you could go with pike topminnow (Belonesox belizanus), or even pike-heads (Luciocephalus pulcher), this last needs clean, acidic water.
One problem you may run into is most fish of this body shape require live food, though scuds, ghost shrimp, and crickets can often be used instead of fish.

Thanks for the replys guys, will research the suggestions and will no doubt have some questions.

i guess i could keep a 12inch for most of its life...

Thanks-Merry Christmas
Matt

golden panchax are a quailty fish mine used to eat fly and mozzys lol

If you wanted to spend a lot of time and money you could eventually get a dwarf gar. You find the smallest gars possible and breed the smallest of their offspring until you eventually get your 8" gar.
