I would like to do a hujeta gar for a little while.

any hints or tips?

Are hey aggressive?

Thanks
Matt

They are predatory but not aggressive. They will not bother anything to big to eat and can be a bit timid or nervous in a tank, Give them cover in the form of clumped groups of long plants, even if you use plastic ones. This will give them a "safe" place to lurk. They can be kept in small groups and this makes them less jumpy.

Thanks for the replys

i dont want to breed gars. dont have enough time, money or space but thats a very good idea guppy, thanks

thanks for the info right now im torn between Black Ghost Knifefish and a Gar. i cant choose!

Thanks
Matt

a BGK will get big.
hujetas usually max out at 10 inches or so...
sometimes less.
they are not usually aggressive.
but mine were different.
they tore up me aro's tail and theyre gone now.
aros still alive and well.
they can be trained to eat pellets.
mine did.
dont grow very fast.

hujetas can get big in the wild they get over 20'' in aquariums they don't useually get over 12'' a 50 gallon might not be big enough plus they like long tanks they use speed to catch there prey like alot of other surface dwellers so a larger tank is needed for adults BGK can get around 18'' byt are very slow growers so you would have a long time to find a bigger home for one if you got a ghost knife

needle fish or needlenose gars might be what your looking for they stick to the top all the time and aren't true gars but look and eat like them they do like salt in there water so thats something to think about

Thanks Channarox and Killer fish i will have a serious think

i like the BGK as it is slow growing, feeding isnt too hard and there is little chance of preditation on the Dat which i am planing to put in...

...but the Gars just look so cool:grinno:

Will have a serious think
