How does the blue ring octopus inflect its venom? And is it aggressive to people? Because it might not be such a huge threat.

I think they inject it with their bite, as for being a danger to humans, only if they pick one up or step on one by accident... Since i think they sometimes get trapped in small rock pools by the beaches etc...

The octopus pictured is indeed a blue ring, but Octopus mercatoris does in fact exist and is harmless. I've had one. Before the Army started bouncing me all over the country, I kept cephs in my saltwater tank. Mercs need at least a 29 gallon to be successful. NO ceph species does well in confined spaces. They make 10x the waste of a fish the same size. Plus, they need a lot of things to keep them stimulated. They are every bit of a wet pet, in every sense of the word. My Abdopus aculeatus would beg for food and actually enjoyed being petted and playing with me when I would stick my hand in the tank. It's like having a dog that's stuck in a fish tank!
My merc was much more reclusive. Typical of small octopuses, he was STRICTLY nocturnal. All he really succeeded in doing was obliterating my cleanup crew when I wasn't looking. When I first got the merc, I kept him in a tupperware with a bunch of holes punched in it. Sure enough, he wasn't able to escape. Eventually I got tired of not being able to get a good look at him or to take good pictures of him, so I transferred him to a critter keeper. He escaped his first night in the CK. Sure enough, my cleanup crew got scarce in short order after that. Eventually he managed to escape the tank and I found a small piece of octojerky on my living room carpet.
