I picked this guy up August 31 2006 and it only eats frozen brine shrimp usually twice a day and it must eat the left overs through out the day cause it's belly seems to be full most of the time.

It's grown maybe half an inch!!! It's only 2.5 -3 inches long.

What is this guy?

This is probably wrong, but the patterning on him reminds me of the adult C. marmoratus. If it is one I'm gonna be jealous!

Try getting him on other foods. Bloodworms, blackworms, small pieces of frozen krill and frozen silversides, this should help speed up the growth rate.

It's a Cr. sveni. IME they are somewhat slow growing for a pike. Keep feeding it lots of food but increase your water changes. 50% weekly will kick in a growth spurt.

Also, I'm not a big fan of frozen brine shrimp. Try other meaty foods as mentioned above.

Lastly, what size tank is it in and with what other fish. Sometimes a change of scenery, especially if it is not currently the dominant fish, will kick in a growth spurt.

It's in a 29 gallon with 4 cop. Azureus & a little gold saum female. I've not seen anyone harrass the pike and it swims freely throughout the tank.

It also gets the occassional "feeder fry" (convict and assorted african ciclids)

The water changes will definitely help. Try frozen blood worms, frozen plankton and frozen mysis. Live red worms are an excellent food as well. BS has little to no nutritional value.

Aye, gorgeous sveni, you're definately taking top notch care of it!! DEFINATELY get in on the water changes, especially in a tank of that size. 50% to 70% at least once a week ( I do 75% waterchanges at least twice a week, sometimes three times a week). It will remove any horomones or inhibitors some of the other fish may have released into the water, as well as provide essential fresh water and what not. It will most definately help with the growth.

Like Scat said, mysis shrimp is the way to go!! If you can get your LFS to get it in from Piscine Energetics, have them do it. They have the best Mysis shrimp around, hands down. Thats what i feed my fish and they are steadily growin. Main thing is the water changes and a more varied diet. Changing it to another tank, hopefully a larger one, will also help out dramatically. Larger tank equals more space, less dissolved solids blah blah blah. Best of luck!! Your doing great! Keep it up!

I'm still getting rid of my left over african cichlid spawns and currently they are taking up valuable space in a 125 gal...once they're gone this guy should find a home in it with less aggressive schooling fish (silver dollars & pearsei etc).

Does anyone have a picture of an adult sveni?

Here's an adult female

Mark's Ark has an adult female at the moment. Of course being Mark's Ark they want a ridiculous amount of money for it.
