Bought these as wallaceii, but would like everybody's input. The 2 females look different to us

Sorry. hard to catch these lil buggers on camera, lol

Look more like sp. Orinico dwarf ... which is one of the 3 species coming out of Colombia as Cr. wallacii. My wallacii had orange rimmed dorsal spot with no barring what so ever in the dorsal fin.

The 1st 2 pics are the females. 1 stays white looking and the other is always showing the stripe. The male killed all the other males I had, even the bigger ones, but he seems to be settled down w/ these 2 at the moment. I'm keeping them in a 75 w/ baby abalios and yellow balzanis. They destroy live grass shrimp!

Not surprised about the shrimp. They'll also take out dithers too large to eat, if they can get their mouths around the head of the fish.

Sometimes it takes time to figure out what they are, the dorsal patterns are slow to fill in. Like I said, I've seen 3 different species sold as Cr. wallacii thus far. But they are neat fish for sure.

Well I'm a confessed crenicichlaholic and I've wanted dwarf pikes forever, so I feel lucky to have these little guys. I just wished the male didn't kill the others. Its funny, I keep some nice lugubris and lacustris group species and have never had any real problems w/ same species agression like I did w/ these dwarves. My girlfriend keep apistos and other dwarf cichlids too, but I wonder if the dwarf pikes would kill her apistos???

Yeah, they are such neat fishes that my handle on other forums is actually dwarfpike. :headbang2 Thus far I've had 5 different species of dwarves.

They are weird. They detest each other of course. And they will fight with fish that step up to them, but I've kept them with dwarf acaras and dwarf jewels without issue (Laetacara dorsigera and A. thomasi). But they killed larger cichlids that would mess with them.

In nature, noto's are seen hunting apisto fry through the leaf litter. I desperate want to recreate that tank some day.

Nice! My GF has the buckelkopfs & Ivanacara adotekas and TONS of apistos. We originally kept the first batch of dwarf pikes mixed it w/ her dwarfs but that male ran thru the others in a couple months. He even killed a 5in male, which was the biggest dwarf pike I've ever seen in person. They are doing much better as a trio in a 75.
