Are they mean in general or is it strictly the bigger snakeheads that are the killers?

Where has snakeheads invaded in north america? Here in michigan we catch something similar to it but was called a "dogfish". When theyre caught fishermen leave them to die on the shorelines....they really hate the fish. Are those snakeheads?

They're ok until you start getting a breeding pair, then they become very territorial, and WILL kill other tankmates. I don't know what a dogfish look like. Do you have a picture?

Its a term coined by us the aquarists' circles to describe a group of snakehead fishes growing only 10 -12 inch . The following are from this group
Channa bleheri
Channa burmanica
Channa gachua
Channa harcourtbutleri
Channa orientalis
Channa stewartii

The small ones are not as aggressive as there big brothers. But if it fits in the mouth its dinner

Chana gaucha will readily breed in home aquarium so is a good one to start with but as stated do get a bit twitchey when breeding

Now that I think about it, I think the "dogfish" is the bowfin. I think I've heard that term used for bowfins. I am not 100% sure.

In MN, bowfins are called dogfish.

See, that's a sad scenario. Why would they just kill fish? Anglers including tend to forget the importance of keeping our natural resources. Sad, sad day for both worlds.
