I'm the one deadeye was talking about with the bichir same thing with mine hasn't grown since pretty much the day i got him 1 year ago however he isn't deformed but he is an albino so may have something to do with it
Dwarfism in fish?

I had a couple albino sens and they grew fast until about 6” then totally stopped and 6 months after they stopped growing they both died with in a week of each other the exact same way, those were the only fish I’ve lost in that tank. With what you said about yours, it makes me wonder if there’s something with albino bichirs.

Just curious if they are prone to health issues of any kind. I had a couple albino Senegal’s that I raised for two years since they were tiny, maybe 2” and they were about 6-7” and doing great, then out of now where one started writhing around and was dead a few hrs later, then about a week...

Mine is only about 2 inches and hasn't grown and looks completely normal he eats like a pig so I think it has something to do with incest when they were bred.
Wow, that’s crazy, mine were 2”‘when I got them. I think incest probably is the cause with both of our sens.
Probably, because both my endli and ornate grew up in the same 40 gallon and the endli is 10 inches and the ornate is 6

I was once told to just get the big tank for my fahaka right off the bat, aside from other reasons, it would prevent stunting...Could that be a possibility?

I have a perfect example of a red and blue columbian tetra. Definitely a dwarf. Tiny as the day I got those guys in last Feb of 2020 everyone else grew. Might have to snap a picture this weekend how it looks vs its friends
I don’t feed too often and only got diligent on water changes recently. I can probably attribute it to that.
Lol my girl here is 2 years old and she's still only 5in. Her big sister is almost pushing 9in already and they are both from the same clutch of eggs, from the same parents. Personally I think she just got the short end of the stick, when it came to potential max size, in the genetic lottery. But too be fair she also looked like neither of her parents by the time she was 1in, so maybe that had some small part to do with it as well.
