With the multiple posts on dyed fish lately I decided to start this thread. Not trying to get anyone riled up just have a few questions and would like some opinions on this. What's the worst you guys have seen? I recently saw "I <3 U" blood parrots. They actually dyed "I 'little heart symbol' u" on the side of blood parrots. I also came across BP's with sets of lips dyed in them. A few months back the Florida Aquarium had a huge display based around home aquaria and the history of personal fish keeping. Well, on display were these little zebra danios with bright pink, blue, yellow and orange coloration. On their little display plate it stated that these fish were "created" by splicing anemone dna w/ the eggs. I am assuming this is BS and am kind of puzzled at the fact that this was posted at an aquarium. Anyone know anything about this? Looking forward to seeing the responses. Also, I know this has been discussed before but I couldn't find anything on the "anemone spliced" danios. Thanks Guys! :)

Never heard of anemone spliced. Blood Parrots are probably the most sought after fish for dyeing.

They now come in colours that rivals saltwater due to thier colouring.
You never see a phantom purple freshwater fish. So people should have an instinct not to buy these.

Yeah, they glow in the dark. I always thought they were dyed until I saw them at the Florida Aquarium. That's some weird stuff. Anyone know how this is done or where I can find info on this?

I've seen saltwater "glo-fish" that werent dyed at my 'Theme Park Aquarium'. Called Underwater World.
They were almost pitch black with a white-ish glow under thier eyes.

Yeah, I've seen these before but that's naturally occuring. There are lots of marine animals that glow to adapt to low light conditions. Never heard of any freshwater fish though.

Me neither. Saltwater fish seem to have better adaptions, sort of.
If they dont need a glowing part, they wont evolve into one.

How cruel. It could take them up to 10-15 minutes to do that. And only every 2-3 minutes would they let the fish take a breath.

yeah the danios are genetically altered and have been bread for quite awhile so its like a new strain, the website is www.glofish.com. Im not sure how i feel about them yet. My sister had to have some of the pink ones. Umm as far as dyed i think the ones i hate the most are what they do to the blood parrots, any of it, whether it be designs or those stupid little blue and purple ones they call cotton candy. But the glass fish that they dye i think bothers me even more.

But yeah thats the site for the glofish

ps leave fish alone, they are beautiful enough without needing us to change their color (sorry for the mini rant)
