I was beating the idea around in my head on how to make it easy for you to make it look good without cutting up good wood just to get the feel for the tools. I came up with several ideas that I think you will like. At this point the frame is trivial; we can work on that later and it will get covered up. For a nice covering, consider wood paneling or white tile board for bathrooms. The tile board is really a wood fiber product coated with vinyl. It has four inch tile patterns pressed into it. You can get other patterns also. Take a tour of Home Depot or Lowes paneling isle. Wood paneling and bathroom paneling both are easy to cover cut edges. Wood paneling is trimmed out with corners and moldings. Bathroom paneling is trimmed out with plastic corners and edging. Ask a person there to show you what to trim it with. Both are cut with a circular saw or jigsaw.
Another idea I had is to use formica and cover the edges with white plastic corner molding. The door openings will look kind of funny when they are open but when closed nobody will know the difference. Instead of making doors, consider buying them already made in the bathroom/kitchen area.
