Dying Fiberglass Resign INSTEAD of Pond Liner?

Any of you guys follow Palmer Aquatics on YouTube? He is building a 19 feet long plywood aquarium. He is trying to dye the fiberglass resign instead of using pond linder. Here is the video:

Definitely should be doable, it's commonly done. Haven't watched the video with sound(No sound at the moment) just skimmed through, so I'm not really sure what he's doing wrong? Wrong type of dye, or not enough.
