Hello MFH! this is my first post on this website and i see that there is a very large # of well informed and experienced fish keepers...
I recently bought a FH and he was fine until a few days ago. He's been unmobile and it looks like he has white flakes on his fins and face.
He's not eating either. the rest of the fish in the tank are perfectly fine and eating. is he dying? sick?
What should i do ?? i'd appreciate any feedback>>

it looks like a bad case of ick. put some aquarium salt in even if he doesn't make it, theirs a good chance your other fish will get it.1tsp per gallon

Yes, ick (white spot) is contageous. Raise your temperature to 86-88 F and give the tank extra aeration if you can. The parasites do not survive and reproduce at that temperature.
The aquarium salt suggestion, above, is also good.

Leave the temperature raised until 5 days after you have seen the last spots disappear.

The extra aeration is needed as warmer water holds less oxygen.

hopefully your fishes get better

ok! Yeah i also have a zebra obliquiden that's started doing the same today!
so is this "ick" contagious?

yes it is contagious.

You probably bought this FH from your LFS instead of a private party?

anyhow, follow the advice of salt, increase temp, aeration, frequent/daily water changes, & cross your fingers. GL

Good Luck...keep us posted. If for any reason you cant do any of the mentioned above, let us know.
