Dying Ray

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I bought a female marble from Spencer a week before halloween. just a small wildcaught pup (looked just like the one you got) and within three months she has tripled or more in size on earthworms and shrimp. very happy with my purchase. I've heard those white patches are due to high nitrate and require large daily water changes to reverse the spread.

it's really hard for me to buy a fish sight unseen, but I've only heard good things about Spencer and decided to try him out. got other fish ordered from him aswell and they all arrived in good shape. I suppose they are very fragile creatures and shipping could have stressed her out as well as a number of factors.

Glad he worked out for you. I too ordered a pup but got a 9 incher instead with out knowing. Pups from the wild would be easier to adapt then large Rays. This is the only reason I ordered wild because it was a small Ray, so I thought. My good friend has had three wild caught rays all pups and never any problems.
I said it before , I am not new at fish keeping nor went from keeping guppies to rays. I have kept many sensitive fish and have very extensive knowledge in aquarium water. Nitrates are always under 5 ppm.

He either knew it was a I'll Ray and I was just a lucky one that he happen to pawn it off to or he didn't know it was ill and made the mistake. Either way he knew what was happening the whole time as I was updating him via email and when it finally died and I told him, he said....

What does DOA have to do with it???

Just becarful and thorough when ordering from him. Probally great most of the time but none of all the vendors are saints, trust me

You don't become a successful retailer if you are a saint. I don't think you can look at this situation and not find fault in the vendor. I think it's pretty shiesty to send a larger specimen without consulting or knowing of your circumstances.

Exactly, well said. Thank you.

Sorry for the loss! I've got my first Ray and it's kinda scary. I've read so much on how temperamental they can be.

I've only lost 1 Ray and it was WC. The captive bred are hardy and breed like rabbits
