E. americanus americanus/E. americanus vermiculatus ?'s

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Woops! I ment whiteclouds, pond minnows, etc. Would mosquito fish be ok, or are they just too dirty?

I'm pretty sure I'm going to order the Red Fins from Jonahs aquarium...

I think Redfins look better when the fins are more colorfull. I've only caught one Redfin in my life and it looked great. I wish I could have brought it home, but I was far away from where I live. Also it was too big, I've never caught a small pickerel sence I only ceatch them while bass fishng.
If you want one, Jonahs aquarium would be a good place to get one.

I dont know if Jonahs has any available at this time, but I know they can get them. So, I'll just have to wait. I'll email them once I get the tank all set-up and whatnot and see if I can get a pair.

Yeah, really awesome fish, cant wait until I get them. Should be fun setting up the tank!

I have another question. :nilly: Would it be ok if I put a spotted bullhead in with the Redfins?

No!!!
Bullheads are EXTREMELY aggressive. Plus it will likely grow big enough to eat your pickerel before the pickerel grows and inch.

I had a grass and I also owned a redfin and let me tell you the name means nothing. My grass was about twice as colorful as the redfin. I got my red and grass from some members here and the grass I actually got to eat dry food. It just takes some time. Go gradually. But they are great fish. I wouldn't feel bad keeping a trio in a 75 but thats just me. I would do 3 or 4 in a 125. They look really cool in groups but just make sure they are the same size...otherwise you might be one less lol. BTW I could never really find any suitable tankmates for them. I kept my redfin with a baby LMB and it ended up getting killed. The grass just ate all his tankmates lol. He tried to eat a 6" irridescent shark that was FAT when he was 8"!

Never really had problems keeping a spotted bullhead with my pickerels, albeit only temporarily for the winter. Spotteds are smaller so I don't think they'd get big enough to eat a pickerel.
