Brasiliensis gets up to about 11 inches supposedly. Mine is only at about 4 inches right now. Grew from about 3 inches in 2 month.

I know satanoperca daemon get over 8" since I have 2 wild caught adults that are about 9". Growth rate, I have no idea. Ask me in 6 months. I also have 6 juvies, but I just got them recently. I believe all of the satanopera reach 8", except maybe the mapiritensis. However, JK47 and others can better help you.

S. Mapiritensis have a slow growth rate, they can reach 8"+ though. My orange heads have grown about 30%-40% faster than my maps in the same duration of time. I would not recommend any species from the Satanoperca genus at all (spotted or not). They will be stressed too easily by aggressive tank mates to thrive.

Hao, to be honest if your concerned about them surviving at small sizes in the first year, eartheaters are not a good choice of stock in general. ;) To answer the question though, if your set on keeping an eartheater species Geophagus Brasiliensis vaients may be your best bet. They do get large and are to my knowledge slightly more aggressive than other species. I have never kept any of the varients though for the record..

I'm pretty sure I've seen photos of someone's altifrons which were around a foot long, they looked huge. Not sure how long that took though.
