Earthquake in Haiti

I saw this on the news. Looks like true living hell on earth. They had a collection bucket in school, and I gave 7 bucks. Not a lot, but I needed lunch money, and still a heck of a lot more than most kids gave :irked:

our school is collecting soap so victims can stay clean and so their wounds won't be infected. I biked to walgreens and got a few bars to help out

I do think we are all desentitized(way wrong spelling but you get it) in the U.S. Personally when I heard about this earthquake, I hardly thought about anything. Earthquakes happen everywhere I thought, it sucks but would it be a big deal if it happened in Maine or somewhere random in the U.S. Probably not.

Does this mean I don't care...of course not. Any life taken from this world just sucks. We've all lost family members or friends, it's pain it the simplest form. Someone dies and everyone is hurt, all we can do is grieve and try and help. I hope noone thinks I'm awful, but there's no point in lying about how I feel. Were desencitized, when you hear someone has died during this war were in, do you really even think about it. Do you pray for their families and yours if you have someone in this war. I know alot of people do, but most don't. It's sad, but it's how history is going.

I'm done, hate or love it...idc.

They occur when there is seismic activity and fault lines so they can't happen anywhere (i'm not geologist though). I have been looking at pics and video and its tough to watch. Its hard to avoid devastation since it happened in such a populated, built up area. If an earthquake happens in the wilderness life goes on, the more civilized the bigger the danger. Which brings up an interesting concept of rebuilding, since its such a small country. Look at the U.S....natural disasters occur repeatedly and lives are lost, but we still build there again.

I think Haiti is a special situation... because its like having an earthquake hit right in middle of the worst possible slump in the world..

If u look at Haiti history... (which i had to myself on wiki) their economy and government is crap due to a dictatorship..... if u can imagine.. its like North Korea, becoming a democracy and slowly rebuilding itself.. but suddenly and earthquake hits and 50,000 people are dead... :(

Anyways.. I think this Quake is very serious.. I was reading the paper today.. and they actually are just gathering the dead in one giant area... it sad... really sad to see this.. Its worst than a War i think...

I believe it would have been a big deal had such an earthquake struck in the US because this particular earthquake was powerful enough that even 'earthquake proof' buildings would sustain considerable damage and some might still collapse.

there is a limit to how earthquake resistant humans can build things (obviously) and I believe this earthquake's force was above that limit for most buildings..

the problem in Haiti is that they buildings were quite flimsy to begin with, and that made the damage 1000x worse..:(
