Earthquakes and your fishtank

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I live in the Pacific Ring of Fire. Had experienced minor earthquakes, saw tanks with water sloshing menacingly but none too damaging. There's not much you can do once the earthquake happens especially as they're unpredictable.

I live 10 minutes away from the San Andreas fault.. Hope nothing happens. If theres an earthquake and it knocks my tank over, stock would be the least of my worries cause of the 90 gallons of water on the carpet

I live in Chile for many years, and there we have mini earthquake every year, and a big earthquake every 20 years 1939/1960/1985/2010. I was there in 1985 and it was pretty scary, i think it was 7. something, the one this year a 8.5, to me an earthquake that magnitud nothing will prevent to a big aquarium to brake, the power that shake its beyond explanation.

I'm not worried about my Tank... Heck it will just get me a brand new set-up :D (Insurance baby :) )
It's my 16"+ African Tiger Fish I worry about :(

I was given my 240 by my long time neighbor. He has no photo's , but. he told me that during the Loma Prieta quake (7.1 / 50 miles away) all the gravel and decorations piled up in one end and 1/4 of the volume (60 gallons ) came out the top and blew the light fixtures off onto the floor. His Oscars were suitably freaked out. The photo would have been priceless.
