So today, i thought id give my Oscar a treat and give him a few earthworms. Well, as soon they hit the water, they were devoured, then almost immediately spat back out. I'm perplexed seeing as how he used to love earthworms. Perhaps there are chemicals present on the worms or maybe on my hands then came into contact with the worms? Any opinions on the matter would be appreciated.:)

did you rinse them off first? maybe he didnt like the taste of dirt in them? ive never seen an O turn down any kind of insect so thats crazy that he did that and i cant really think of any other reasons why...

If you got them at a bait shop or they were sold as bait then sometimes they are dipped or coated in an attractant and that might taste weird to the Oscar, it does mine.
Also, be sure to squeeze the sh** out of them, and I don't mean squish. Like a tube of toothpaste.:barf::headbang2

Maybe the Oscar was expecting something else? I can't imagine an O spitting up an earthworm, though. Maybe it tickled him?

I leave the dirt in them. Pretty sure there's more good than bad in there. Like minerals and so forth.

Yes i did rinse the worms off, the worms were the kind you find at walmart in the sports section.

Now he's starting to turn down cichlid gold pellets!!! Maybe i should lay back on the handwashing?

Could have a stomach bug. Treat for parasites asap just to be safe. Jungle parasite clear is good/ readily available (even seen it at walmart). It's the first thing I think of if an oscar isn't eating.

+1

Any time an Oscar does not want to eat, it is VERY sick. They are eating machines.

I don't think he doesn't want to eat, as i fed him a super worm a few minutes ago. He happily gulped it down, but still doesn't wish to take earthworms or pellets.
