easiest feeders to breed?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
no problem..you need one male and 2 females...a tub devided in half would work..food is anything they go crazy for lakes, pellets, live black worms, frozen krill and frozen black worms. dump one female in to the males side they will build a bubble nest and breed with in a few days.

once breeding is done.. (you can see lots of eggs in the bubble nest) remove the female to her side..when fry hatch dad will take care of them for a while...move the fry to a grow out tub and dump in next female.

10 gallons for a pare is fine so 20 gallon tub would be perfect.
Iv had allot of success with feeding the fry smashed up boiled egg yolk..strained to get the chunks out as food for the newborns..mixing in ground of flakes or first bites.

this is a good over view of it.

Thanks a ton! you couldn't have made it easier for me lol, besides getting the fish I think you just planned it out for me :D

I like the idea of getting a 20 gal tub and dividing it, then introducing the male to each females side. Would some kind of grate with netting attached work to divide the tub? I am just thinking that if I use some sort of divider that the fry cant get through, then the four sponge filters I put in will be able to do the entire tub rather than 2 to each side (if I divided it completely)

Sounds like feeding them isn't too much trouble either.. Paradise fish sound perfect :) I may just start there and go to convicts once I have some sort of breeding accomplished, and once my cichlids get a lot bigger.

Thanks again!

no problem^_^ glad to help

oh and they are a cooler water fish so..don't really need a heater as long as they are room temp^_^

the hard part will be finding females you might have to order some.

It took me a long time to fine a female most pet shops don't sell them.

That's perfect! I don't even heat my 65 gallon, I keep the room 80 - 83F year round for my reptiles so the tank is always sitting at 80F, so any aquarium that comes in this room will not need heating anyways (Unless the species of fish needs it) :D

I have two stores near me that I can try with, Big Als and Pet Paradise where I work. So hopefully they can get me those 2 females and a male soon. I know this is kinda difficult to answer seeing as I am in Canada and you are in the US, but how much do these guys usually go for each?

It would be sweet if they are cheap, that would make it even better in terms of breeding!

the lfs around me that sells males for 3.99 each..not sure what they are selling the females fore..Im the only one that has been able to get them females witch i trade for store credit^_^.
