Spend the money on live rock, sand and a quality skimmer.

Check out craigslist for rock and sand. You can usually find it a lot cheaper than the LFS.

I've heard that it is unwise to cut costs on a new saltwater tank because it could be detrimental in the long run. just saying.

This is true, but thats why hes on here asking the people that have had success with cutting corners.


You will need lace/base rock if you not doing live or a combination. Others will leach if not cured.

I suggest buying live sand, or live aragonite mix

get salt mix

hydrometer off ebay

skimmer

done...

buy some ones disease infested live rock and live sand its always a great idea


buy lace or base rock and one nice piece of LR from the lfs, or order live rock off ebay/internet.

you can get bad rock/sand from anywhere, even the lfs. I've bought better quality rock from cl than I have from the lfs
