Global fish co in North NJ is very good. I just got a S. sanchezi from them and they had a great + healthy selection.
When you’re in Florida check out WWC. They are saltwater only but still fun to visit (especially since they are one of the main coral suppliers to most other places).
In NJ, I second absolutely fish especially for saltwater, they do also have some cool oddball freshwater fish. Also fish hut close on rt46 has an amazing cichlid selection.
In CT, Greenwich aquarium is quite nice, though this is north of NYC so may not be on your route.
