I really want to keep some eastern fence lizards, how do I go about it? What sould I feed them? If I do get them they will be wild caught. they would be babies. you see, we have a cabin up in the mountains and there are TONS of them up there. Thanks in advance.
They like to live on low trees, rocks and bushes and love to eat beatles but in captivity they do fine on dusted crickets. Make sure you keep the males seperated otherwise they'll fight. Give them plenty of hiding places and some places to bask.
Just thought I would let you know, you might want to check your state laws to make sure it's legal. As far as care, I agree with the above. You might also want to give them full spectrum lighting. I'm not sure if they need it, but it keeps them healthier, IME.
We have four small eastern fence lizards in a 10 temporarily. They eat pretty much anything that gets dropped in and they see move. Mealworms are a favorite but we also feed crickets and red wigglers. We have 3 males and 1 female and so far there has been absolutely zero fighting. We will be upgrading to a 20 long for them this spring. They are avid baskers and are constantly out sunning themselves whenever the light is on.
