easy to breed???

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Yeah. How big is this pond? Muskies get pretty big, and likely won't breed. The stock rate for muskies is one per 1/4 acre.

it will be 18x10x6d

that is not very big at all, you might as well just have the muskies in there because with that little space the other fish aren't going to have anywhere to hide and are going to get eaten

Nooo! Don't even think about putting a musky in there!!!! Ack!!! Your stocking plan is WAY over what a 18x10x6ft pond could hold. The recommended stocking rate for muskie is one per 1/4 acre of pond space. I would put maybe 2 or 3 gar and 3-5 lmb in that pond and possibly a channel cat. That's pushing it. Why are people trying to cramp their fish so much lately???

I've been told 3x body legnht 1xbody lenght for with and 6 feet deep.

For most fish, that can apply. They should really have 4x body for length and 1.5x for width. Muskies need space. Stocking rate for muskies is one per 1/4 acre for a reason. Somebody didn't just randomly think "hey, let's make this the stock rate for muskies". For other fish, like gar and bass, the 4x by 1.5x is a good rule of thumb. I would get spotted or Florida gar, since they only get to 20" in captivity. That way you could stock more fish than you could with a 3' longnose.

parents are thinking of making me give fish back to lfs(muskie)

That would probably be a good idea. There aren't many people out there that can keep muskies because of their sheer size and requirements. You could keep something similar like chain pickerel or grass/redfin pickerel.

i am going wi th dats get ok sized and don't need that large tank.
