I have to move a fish tank 2 feet down the wall to make room for my new tank I want. I am moving a 75 gallon with a 14 inch Jaguar/Dovii hybrid. I plan to drain most of the water in his tank into rubbermaid tubs, scoot the tank down and refill it back with his original water. My question, what is the least stressful way to catch Jag. He will be put in a rubbermaid for a time while his home is being moved. I don't want to stress him out too much. He already has an attitude, don't think he will appreciate being stuck in a rubbermaid tub. I don't have a net big enough to catch him in, he outgrew the net I had. He attacks anything placed in his tank. Any ideas?

Well if you have a little muscle and a buddy you can just lower the water level so that its only high enough for the fish, then just pick up the tank and move it and refill it. That would be least stressful on the fish because he doesn't have to be netted and be moved from environment to environment.

but that could be very stressful to the tank bottom; I seriously do not recommend moving tank with any water in it.

14 inches? Fry it up and share it with your buddies.

Cichlids are pretty tough...use a wet T-shirt or a pillow case to go underneath the fish and lift it up. You can cover the fish as well if you wish. It should not be a big deal...you really don't need old water, just make sure with the new setup, water temp is similar.

you could put a 5 gallon bucket in the tank let him swim in it and then put a lid on the bucket
i have caught large fish this way

the pillow case idea is good also

+1. Never move a tank with water in it unless it's a very small amount. He should be fine by scooping him up a large net or a pillow case like ecoli said and out into the temp bin.

I know it's been said but to reiterate do NOT move the tank with water in it. Unless it's under an inch of it, IMO. And even then I wouldn't on a larger tank.

Fair, forgot that the fish isn't exactly short :banhim:

In terms of stress on the fish I think you need to get the water way down, and then scoop him out into a bucket (pillowcase) and put a lid on the bucket (the darker the better).

My bad, don't normally say things like that

purchase furniture sliders, lower water level, insert said sliders, slide tank, remove sliders, refill tank. enjoy new tank placement and non-stressed jag.
